In the Work Plan of the Department of Psychology of the Lycée Français of Medellín, the importance of parents actively connecting with the institution and with the educational process of their sons and daughters has been considered as a favoring factor of good practices, healthy coexistence and comprehensive well-being for the entire educational community, in the different life scenarios in which its members develop. That is why the Parents’ School was born as an effective strategy to promote this purpose.
The objective is to provide parents with a reflective, critical, and formative meeting space about the potential and responsibility of their role in the upbringing and education of their sons and daughters, focused on the development of management skills for the multiple challenges and crises that such work faces throughout the different stages of the vital cycle.
Let’s work together to strengthen a community that generates value for all, leveraged in the pursuit of our well-being and that of our children.
We are apalm, a non-profit social, educational, and cultural service entity, constituted freely and voluntarily, by a group of parents motivated by the desire to know each other and unite in an organized way, as important actors in the accompaniment of the educational process of our children at the Lycée Français of Medellín. We obtained our legal status on March 12, 2019 and from that date on, we began to work on the consolidation of a large community of parents of the Lycée.
Our objective is to support the execution of the Institutional Educational Project and the Improvement Plan of the Educational Establishment, to benefit students and families with the premise of common good and transparency; in addition to promoting integration, growth, family unity, support for multiculturalism, respect for the entire community and strengthening personal, family, and academic values, through activities focused on benefiting everyone.

Campaign Let’s RE-use:
Inspired by the circular economy, which involves sharing, renting, reusing, repairing, renewing, and recycling existing materials and products as many times as possible, we launched this campaign to promote the preservation and care of the environment.
Bienvenue aux Profs:
Welcoming teachers is a simple but very heartfelt act that has become a tradition. On behalf of the families of the educational community, we welcome the new teachers who arrive at the Lycée Français of Medellín (local and foreign).
Traditionally and hand in hand with the school, we have participated annually in this event, supporting the logistics of different recreational activities. On this day parents of the educational community dress up and accompany the children on this exciting date.
To celebrate Christmas, we team up with the school, to decorate the tree in the central courtyard. Several parents accompany the children in making decorations, with simple and/or recycled materials.
Fête de la Francophonie:
La Francophonie is a celebration of the French language that children live intensely at the Lycée, and that apalm also highlights within families, in order to integrate French academic and cultural events into home experiences.
Children and especially our children, are undoubtedly a central part of our celebrations and activities, for this reason, we hold virtual contests, so that this date is also enjoyed at home.
Celebrating Mother’s and Father’s Day:
Through contests that are mainly virtual, we recognize the mothers and fathers of the Lycée. This event can be carried out with the support of enterprises from the same educational community.
Our school year begins on September 1st and ends on June 30th, solely working on a day shift. The school year at the Lycée consists of 36 weeks of class divided into 5 periods of 6 to 10 weeks, separated by one, two or three weeks of vacations.
