Preschool
Learning at Preschool
The preschool welcomes children before compulsory education. At our Lycée, it is organized into four sections: TPS, PS, MS, and GS, according to the children’s ages: 2, 3, 4, and 5 years old.
It corresponds to Cycle 1 of the French educational system. During these four years, students acquire knowledge and skills suited to their age and needs, essential for their well-being and development.
Its main mission is to awaken in children the desire to attend school to learn, affirm, and develop their personality.
Here, they develop oral language, motor skills, and begin to discover writing, numbers, and other learning areas. They learn through play, reflection, problem-solving, practice, recall, and memorization.
Learning at Preschool is Organized into Five Areas
This is Cycle 1, where the first learning experiences take place, organized into five domains:
01
Use language in all its dimensions
02
Act, express, and understand through physical activity
03
Act, express, and understand through artistic activities
At the French Lycée
Children in preschool have a homeroom teacher and an ASEM (Specialized Preschool Assistant, from the French acronym). These assistants play an essential educational role, working in collaboration with the homeroom teacher in key areas such as supervision, hygiene, and student safety, both in the classroom and during recess, meals, and nap time. They are also responsible for organizing the materials that will be used directly by the children in daily activities, ensuring they are clean and properly stored.
The assistants are part of the educational community and may participate in implementing the pedagogical activities planned by the teachers under their supervision. However, unlike the teacher, they are not responsible for direct instruction. ASEMs are native Spanish speakers and are undergoing training in the French language.
