Historical Overview

Welcome to the Lycée Français of Medellín

In 2015, inspired by the universal values of liberty, equality, and fraternity, the Lycée Français of Medellín was born—a transformative educational project that combines the excellence of the French system with a comprehensive education and an international perspective. Thanks to the leadership of the Mazo Cuervo and Calle Escobar families, founders of renowned institutions such as Universidad Ceipa, Gimnasio Vermont, and Colegio Canadiense, this dream became a reality.

Since its foundation, the Lycée has been part of the global network of the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE), which includes over 600 schools in 130 countries. This affiliation ensures high educational standards, continuous teacher training, and internationally recognized diplomas.

Strategically located along the Escobero – Palmas road, the Lycée Français of Medellín stands out for its focus on the holistic development of students, combining academic excellence with a passion for the arts, sports, and critical thinking. With a highly qualified and dedicated teaching team, it fosters curiosity, autonomy, and respect for diversity.

Our teaching goes beyond memorization, encouraging students to think critically, ask questions, and develop their own judgment. We prepare leaders with a global vision, ready to face the challenges of the modern world.

Join us in this inspiring journey and give your children an education that inspires, transforms, and transcends!

Institutional Principles

Liberty

Liberty holds a central place in our educational project. We believe that every student should be able to express themselves, think, and act freely while also learning to respect others. In the school environment, liberty is manifested through the ability of students to develop their critical thinking, explore new ideas, and engage in projects that reflect their interests and passions.

We promote an education that grants each student the ability to make choices and take responsibility for them. By offering an environment where liberty goes hand in hand with respect and fair rules, we prepare our students to become autonomous citizens, capable of making informed decisions and upholding their values.

However, this liberty is not limited to individual expression. It is embedded in a collective dynamic, where each person contributes to a more open and inclusive society. Through the diversity of ideas and experiences, our students learn that true liberty goes hand in hand with tolerance and mutual respect.

Thus, at the Lycée Français de Medellín, we make liberty a driving force for personal development and a foundation for a harmonious life in society.

Equality

Equality is a central principle that guides our educational approach. We firmly believe that every student should have the same opportunities to succeed, regardless of their background, path, or abilities. For us, equality means providing a learning environment where students can develop fully, according to their needs and particularities.

We ensure that all students, no matter their starting point, have the means to reach their full potential.

At the Lycée Français de Medellín, equality is much more than an educational principle—it is a concrete commitment to enabling all our students to thrive and succeed, regardless of the individual challenges they may face.

Fraternity

Fraternity is a fundamental value in our educational project. We believe that education is not limited to the acquisition of academic knowledge but must also shape individuals capable of contributing to collective well-being. Solidarity means that each member of our school community plays a role in the success of the group.

We encourage our students to develop empathy and support one another, whether in school activities, collaborative projects, or daily life. By acting in solidarity, they learn to respect others, share their skills, and provide mutual support in times of difficulty.

Through concrete actions such as social projects, fundraising campaigns, or peer support initiatives, we cultivate teamwork and commitment to serving others. For us, fraternity is a means to strengthen social bonds and foster a more harmonious and respectful learning environment.

That is why, at the Lycée Français de Medellín, we see fraternity not just as an act of generosity but as an essential skill that prepares our students to be responsible and engaged citizens, ready to contribute positively to society.

Autonomy

At the Lycée Français de Medellín, we firmly believe that autonomy is one of the essential principles of education. As a French institution, we are committed to shaping students who can take initiative, develop critical thinking, and adapt to a constantly evolving world.

Autonomy is cultivated through the gradual learning of responsibility, both in academic work and in collective life. Our teachers encourage students to organize themselves, plan their tasks, and carry out individual or group projects while being guided toward self-assessment and personal reflection. Thus, each student learns to manage their time, make decisions, and draw lessons from their experiences.

By fostering autonomy, we prepare our students to become responsible citizens, confident in their abilities, and ready to face the challenges of the future. In our school, autonomy is synonymous with liberty but also with responsibility and respect for others.

Secularism

Secularism is a fundamental value that structures our educational approach. We are deeply committed to this principle, which guarantees institutional neutrality and freedom of conscience for every student. Secularism allows us all to coexist in mutual respect, regardless of individual religious or philosophical beliefs.

At the Lycée Français de Medellín, we ensure that all students grow in a peaceful and respectful environment where everyone can express their ideas while respecting others.

Secularism guarantees a space of liberty where education is based on shared values such as equality, tolerance, and fraternity while ensuring a clear separation between personal beliefs and the school framework.

Learning about secularism enables our students to develop critical thinking, embrace diversity, and understand the challenges of coexistence in a pluralistic society. By promoting secularism, we shape free, informed citizens who respect diversity.

Discipline

Discipline is an essential value that structures our educational approach. It forms the foundation of a calm learning environment that fosters academic success and mutual respect. Discipline is not merely about following rules; it is about instilling in students the ability to organize themselves, take responsibility, and live in a community while respecting others.

We believe that discipline is a tool for personal development.

By learning to respect rules, manage their behavior, and persevere in their efforts, students acquire essential skills for both their academic and future professional lives. Discipline also teaches them to manage their liberty, helping them understand that it comes with responsibilities.

Our teachers guide students by fostering a positive and respectful attitude toward their peers and the educational staff. They steer students toward self-discipline, which is key to controlled autonomy and genuine preparation for adult life.

Thus, at the Lycée Français de Medellín, we view discipline as a means to ensure the well-being of all, promote collective success, and prepare our students to be responsible citizens who respect the rules of coexistence.

Honesty

Honesty is one of the cornerstones of our educational approach. We believe that integrity and transparency are essential for creating an atmosphere of trust, where every student feels safe and respected. Honesty is not just about telling the truth—it also involves taking responsibility for one’s actions, respecting rules, and making fair and well-founded decisions.

At the Lycée Français de Medellín, we encourage students to be honest with themselves, their peers, and their teachers. This means acknowledging mistakes, learning from failures, and striving for genuine personal growth. Honesty helps individuals build self-esteem and establish sincere and lasting relationships with others.

Honesty also fosters fair coexistence by promoting equal opportunities and an environment where everyone can thrive without fear of injustice or favoritism. We raise our students’ awareness of the importance of truth, not only in their academic journey but also in their personal and social lives.

Ethics

Ethics is a fundamental value that guides our educational approach. We believe that education is not limited to acquiring academic knowledge but must also include character development and the transmission of moral principles that enable each student to become a responsible and respectful citizen.

For us, ethics means a commitment to acting justly, honestly, and responsibly in all situations while respecting the rights and dignity of every person. We encourage our students to make well-founded decisions, demonstrate integrity, and act transparently, whether in their school or personal lives.

In our institution, ethics is taught through discussions, collective projects, and concrete actions that raise students’ awareness of the moral and social challenges of our time. We provide them with the tools necessary to think critically and make ethical decisions when facing the challenges of the modern world.

At the Lycée Français de Medellín, ethics is not just an abstract principle but a daily guide that inspires and directs our students’ behavior, helping them become responsible, respectful, and socially conscious adults.

Respect

At the Lycée Français de Medellín, respect is the foundation of our community life. It is a fundamental attitude that must be cultivated daily in all interactions. We believe that mutual respect is key to a harmonious and productive learning environment where every student feels valued, heard, and supported.

We encourage empathy, active listening, and understanding as daily practices that allow students to develop an inclusive worldview. We emphasize the importance of following shared rules and agreements, not just as an act of respect and responsibility but also as a way to strengthen the sense of belonging to our institution.

Our educational approach invites all members of the community—students, teachers, staff, and families—to contribute actively to building an environment where respect is the foundation for shaping responsible, critical, and open-minded citizens.

Respect is taught as a key skill that helps students develop healthy, lasting relationships, both within and beyond the school.
